groups.google.com SPAM attack of September 2008

It seems that many groups.google.com are still affected by the September 2008 SPAM attacks - especially groups with low activity .... since the owner didn't take action because he's probably unaware of the SPAM issue - so word of caution - if you're at work don't open pages from groups.google.com as they might contains NSFW images.

Extract from google group help section

spam, Spam SPAM! - Groups Announcements and Alerts | Google Groups: "We have seen your messages about the spam problems and we are working very hard on it. Many users have complained that links have been modified or files have been uploaded to their group. Here is how it
happens.

A spammer joins an open group, that is, a group that has 'Who can join?' set to 'Anyone can join' and with 'Who can create and edit pages' set to 'Members only'.

Once the spammer joins and becomes members of the new group, they edit current pages and replace the existing links. They also may create new pages, upload files or even post messages"

Happy and safe browsing for all
