Setting a Git Server on a LAN

Instead of relying on a third party platform, if you have a spare linux server, it can be handy to setup your own local git server.

That means that you will not have to rely on github, or gitlab, and can perform your own lab, with versioning

On the server - let's call this host "myHub"

these steps will have to be done:

- installing ssh (openssh-server)

- installing git

on the client machine a ssh public key will have to be generated using

- ssh-keygen -o

the key will be in ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub and will need to be copied over the server as authorized.

https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-on-the-Server-The-Protocols

Back to the local git server "myHub"

$ adduser git

$ su git

$ cd

$ mkdir .ssh

$ chmod 700 .ssh

$ touch .ssh/authorized_keys

the file is created with 0 in size (empty)

$ chmod 600 .ssh/authorized_keys

I recommend to copy and paste the key from the client into the server (in /tmp).

then append this file into the authorized_keys file

$ cat /tmp/id_rsa.pub >> authorized_keys

If you follow the video above, then you will have the git repositories inside the /var/www folder

#  mkdir project.git

# chown git:git project.git

$ cd project.git

$ git init --bare

that is done for the server side

Now on the client side

go to your source (or folder you want to push into the git server "myHub")

then add the git remote address

$ git remote add origin git@myHub:/var/www/project.git main

$ git push --set-upstream origin master:main

$ git log

on the first commit, you will have to declare the user.email and user.name (as global or local)

and from other machine to fetch the source

$ git clone git@myHub:/var/www/project.it -b main

Training a lora (stable diffusion) [part 1]

Step by step Lora Training

Training a model is very demanding, and the result is a minimum 2GB file ; while a Lora (Low-Rank Adaptation) will be less than 150MB.

Where to start?

I would recommend this google colab link

Linaqruf/kohya-trainer/blob/main/kohya-LoRA-dreambooth.ipynb

Step 1:

Requirements: The preparation of a set of images, and texts (dataset)

Another requirements is a google account (to use the colab link and google drive)

Each image and text's name must match - the size of the images should be 512x512 pixels

It is convenient to use https://www.birme.net/ to resize the dataset.

For the text, best is to give a little description on each file, or to use the img2txt feature and get the terms directly from the AI.

 Only 5 images (and texts) are going to suffice, but 15 or more will make the model more reliable.

Once the dataset is complete, put these files into a folder with the number of repeats (5 or 10) and the concept (something like exp, or person, or Bcloth, etc ...)

Once ready add the datasets into the google drive

Step 2:

Open the colab trainer

Go to github.com/linaqruf/kohya-trainer

and pick Kohya Lora Dreambooth

To be continued ...

Tsu interview : Andrea Giovagnoli

Q1: Let’s start with the common question, if you can introduce yourself.

My name is Andrea , I'm a graphic designer and video maker who has a deep love for everything related to art and graphics in general.
I have two cats and a dog, they are my passion and i also love the world of anime and manga.

Q2: How did you get into tsu.co

I joined Tsu.co because a friend of mine, an artist, showed it to me and i thought it could be fun.
Well i'm not an artist but i live thanks to my "artworks", but this is another story.
I love art especially Japanese art and i admire many of my artists friends.

Q3: What are the required qualities of an artist?

Heart and passion, nothing else.

Q4: What are your visions of art for the future ?

I really don't know what can happen, i'm an expert of viral marketing and i can say that augmented reality and social media marketing will be the future of advertising,
but nobody can say how art will change in the future and i think that this the reason of art being wonderful

Thanks for the interview Andrea

Compiling Megahal on mac

How to compile Megahal on Apple Platform with Xcode

Here is a step by step in picture - how to compile Megahal (already mention on this blog) with xcode.

You will find Megahal source at http://sourceforge.net/projects/megahal/files/

  • Step 1 : create a new project as "command line Utility" and "standard tool" :

  • Step 2: open megahal.h, megahal.c and main.c as source files (forget the debug.c file it isn't necessary and it won't compile (because of many errors))

  • Step 3 : In file megahal.c - put in comment the include "debug.h" - so it won't try to link with this file we don't want.
  • Step 4 : in main.c - put in comment the line include malloc.h - and instead add include "/usr/include/malloc.h" - then as in step 3 put in comment the call to "debug.h"
  • Step 5 : Go ahead and press Build and Go - in the build folder you will get the megahal-mac (assuming you named the project as such) and you can then use of the Aritificial Intelligence to play with (I choose Aliens - I like to speak with Bishop!)
That was easy!

Why I will never join facebook

Be a part of a "tribe"

facebook isn't the first social group that ever existed - before facebook was bolt.com (or recently orkut.com), or even now many other underdogs like hi5.com, Netlog, Tagged, Bebo co-exist, even with the previous leader of the pack which is unable to regain popularity myspace.com...

Social group website, works more or less the same way ... you create an account, you post photos, videos, links and interact with "your tribe" - be it your close family, your co-workers, or simply people that are sharing more or less the same hobbies.

Now being successful as a social group is not easy - you have to provide an attractive website, with ease of use, you have to be aware that some people will post things that are not "politically correct" or might even be illegal (in some way - like links to download of mp3 or 'bootleg' movies etc ...).

And even in many instance, the most annoying of all, porn - the all invasive porn that will find the way into any sort of network to spread.

That's the reason you will have this 'report button' - and that link will suddenly disappear, and sometime users account...

Now for the social group provider, the only thing that really count (at the beginning) is to spread like wildfire, so the first case of "porn invasion" or abuse from users will be ignored. Because the step after acquiring a large user base, is the step where user get trapped with this particular website.

Enter the Trap

After your friends, co-workers, etc ... are trapped, then basically this website will become the way you will interact with them by chat, or messages left on their timeline, the problem is that on this platform - you are under surveillance, under scrutiny of marketers, business poll, advertisers, and psychologists that are trying to manipulate, control, and brain-wash people.

And at some stage, you will have to make this choice to stay in because the interaction with your "tribe" is more important - or you will just figure out, that enough is enough and wasting your time in being part of an experiment to turn you into a lab rat, is definitely going too far.

The tactics they're is using to give the impression that it constantly grows - is that you can't ever delete your facebook account, it will stay there "deactivated" ... ready for you to reactivate it (because they know you will be back anyway).

At first (like in any abusive relationship), the partner is showing all his "attractive" side, and wants you to be part of what looks like an interesting and passionate symbiotic relationship - and as soon as you are part of it, it decides (without your accord) that well, some things should be different, and then it starts doing thing in secret, and you will feel more and more like you have been duped, you have been foolish to even start dating this asshole, but it's too late ... now he has all your stuffs, and the more you wait the harder it will get.

And that's the reason you will never find me on facebook.

Brutal capitalism

Starting your own business

Many people nowadays are deciding to make the step, and start their own business, it's in the air ... The days of being an employee for life in a company is over, now people have to change career at least every 2 to 4 years.
And the prospect of having a boss in a corporations that lead a race to the bottom (term devised by Seth Godin) isn't a daily motivation.

But what are the alternatives?

The first thing obviously is to do a bit of soul searching, and understand what makes you unique and then to launch a career as an entrepreneur.
Of course we hear a lot about freelance writer, internet expert, web-designer, or virtual call-center agent, life coach, private tutor and any sort of consultant.

But at the end of the day ... all these people are discovering that they just have switched their employee's seat for an even tougher job - where this time they have to be the employee, the decision-maker, do all the administrative tasks, and more every-day... because of aggressive deadlines, difficult customers, or a bad payment.
They find the hard way the not so glamorous side of having a business of their own, which offer many challenges like the need to build a network of customers, and build up trust with them, and all that takes time... time when the competitors starting now are making huge discount to enter the market.

So after a while, things can get ... challenging.

And that's because the economy has entered a new phase, a new revolution - and is accelerating the movement, I call this "Brutal Capitalism" and things are getting weirder and weirder ; when you start to realize that jobs like "webcam model" are basically starting to appear as viable business model or an attractive solution for young girls.

Because confronted with the choice of uninteresting jobs paid with minimal wages, they happily turning themselves into sex workers.

This is my rant for the day. Maybe "Brutal Capitalism" isn't hard enough .. "Hell Capitalism" could be more suitable.

Microblogging platform review

What is this, and why does it exist?

Microblogging or tumblelog is that (relatively) new trendy type of social website (social .. yes, but not quite like facebook) where you have this never ending stream of pictures, video, quotes, or texts - where you can reblog, like or share and add new content.

For the "content creator" it's way faster than writing long articles on the "traditional" platform like blogger.com or wordpress.com and microblogging serves the purpose of having a hand on the pulse of the internet, much like twitter but with more emphasis on pictures and videos. That's why you can also find #hashtags on tumbleblog. And the reblogging is an even faster way to share content that will snowball and could actually in matter of hours spread all over the interwebs.

For the "surfer" - the fun part about microblogging is that selection of blog you select and will follow and which will merge with the current stream of informations and give you that unique personalized content you will be scrolling endlessly everyday - a very important tool in the procrastinator arsenal.

While facebook is for connecting with friends, and family - tumbleblog are more like a way to connect with like minded people, writers, cosplayers, freelances, comics artists, comedians, spiritual teacher etc ...

Some examples, okay ...

The most famous platform is (probably) tumblr.com - so famous in fact, that it has this "aura" of pillar of the internet (along with 4chan, reddit, twitter and facebook).
But it's not the only one, there's soup.io  quite popular in central Europe, Germany and Austria.
There's also diaspora which is a platform that from the beginning has a priority on privacy and respect for the user (for those who don't trust facebook or google+)

In my experience every of these platform had a quite difficult time in their beginning  - when users were constantly having errors and couldn't post because of server's errors and whatnot.

NB : The first time I discovered the tumbleblog concept was with the now defunct meme.yahoo.com  (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_Meme for more details) - it seems like they had a different strategy in mind because later they bought tumblr.com

Which is like usual saying something on the quality of the platform - the importance, isn't in the technology or the ease of use, but really in the number of people connecting, using and interacting with it. For people that don't know what I'm talking about they should look for the rise and fall of myspace.com.

Bitcoins

What are bitcoins?

Bitcoin is the world's most widely used alternative currency with a total market cap of approximately $13.0 billion. Alternative because of it's geek roots, bitcoins are often labelled as the "Currency of the Geeks".  But why? It appears that the bitcoin project was started in 2009 by an mysterious programmer known as Satoshi Nakamoto. He only communicated electronically, never answered personal questions. Of course conspiracy-minded speculate that the pseudonym Nakamoto was actually a group of people, or a government cryptographer... Alien?

But since bitcoins have reached the mythical 1000$ per bitcoin threshold - there's a lot of talk about this new monetary system that was previously seen as a underdog money for geeks.

See for yourself

My recommendation would be to give it a try and learn for yourself - there's an easy way to do this - just start with http://trybtc.com/ - This website will give you a tour of what you can do with bitcoins, and then will give 0.01$ that you will put in your wallet at coinbase.com.

There's nothing to lose, just register and after that you can donate or receive bitcoins.

Beware though the value of bitcoin isn’t fixed. It fluctuates based on what the market is willing to pay. So even though now the value exceed 1000$ it can go down and reach 0.02$ or go up and reach 10,000$ by the end of the Year...

While economists have had a mixed reaction to Bitcoin in the past - Investors are quite worried to miss the opportunity to jump on board.

A nice community

The community is quite friendly, there are some urban legend such as people finding on an old usb key their first attempt at mining back in 2009 (at the beginning) and discover that in fact they had a pretty good amount of bitcoins right now ... and that in fact they are millionaire!

http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2013/11/30/from-treasure-to-trash-man-tosses-out-bitcoin-wallet-on-hard-drive-worth-9-million/

Or  like this college student, who after created a bitcoin wallet, got a QR code printed on cardboard with the details of the wallet, drove to a location where a TV crew filming and received $24k in bitcoin donations...

2012

When a calendar finishes it doesn't mean it's the end of the world, but time to purchase a new calendar ... right ?! that's the message of the video above.

The lack of stone to carve being the real reason behind the fact that there wasn't any calendar past 2012, seems a bit far fetched, but ... fair enough - but when saying that the Mayans didn't even know that their civilization was about to collapse ... got my spider sense tingling

Because .. the Aztecs actually had foresee the invasion by the Spanish :
On November 8, 1519, the Spanish conquistadors first entered the great city of Mexico, the metropolis the Aztecs had built on a lake island. Don Hernando Cortes, who was accompanied by six hundred Spaniards and a great many native allies, at last could see for himself the temples and palaces about which he had heard so many marvels. The Spaniards arrived from the direction of Tlalpan, to the south of the city, passing across one of the wide causeways that connected the island with the mainland. When they reached a locality known as Xoloco, they were welcomed by the last of the Motecuhzomas, who had come out to meet them in the belief that the white men must be Quetzalcoatll and other gods, returning at last from across the waters now known as the Gulf of Mexico. Thus Cortes and his men entered the city, not only as guests, but also as gods coming home.

The Mayans were an advanced race in astrology and mathematics - even "real scientists" admit that the Earth will be going through a magnetic polar switch quite soon.
In fact, this has already happened some hundred of thousand of Years ago.

Now, the more likely scenario to happen so far is just mankind happily destroying Mother Earth…

Massive exodus from Digg to Reddit

What is digg ? it is a social news website, which means in a nutshell that people are submitting links and are voting for other people links, and after a while the best links appears on the front page.

What is the benefits of that kind of site ? basically, for people providing content (bloggers, journalists, artists, ... ) it means more visits to their website and for followers when they want to find what's hot or to get the mood of the day they just have to check the top links. Google calls this Zeitgeist "the spirit of the times".

Massive Exodus ? Lately Digg introduced a new version (v4) and unfortunately for them this release is probably not ... perfect! many criticisms are sent, and people are running away by joining similar social news website, among them reddit.com.
Which is funny and good because it means that diggers (digg users) are putting an end to the long hatred between the 2 websites. In fact, some redditors (reddit users) called it plainly a war - which was greatly illustrated in these 3 pages comics by ncomment. Because Reddit always suspected digg to steal from them the top links  ... saying ironically that what was posted today on reddit would be posted the next day to Digg.

Conclusion : the (stupid) War is over ... Hurrah!

What People are searching for on the Internet, and what are they currently talking about ?

There's nothing more frustrating than being out of sync with what other people are talking about.

But thanks to the internet, and it's constant flow of information you can easily get the pulse of what's happening online.

The website you can use to have an instant overview of what's hot/popular today is popurl.com ; it will display nicely what links are being shared, and upvoted on a long list of social community.

Now if you want to have a peek at what the people are searching for then Google Zeitgeist is probably the best bet, especially the very powerful insight feature.

"Google Zeitgeist: What people are searching for at Google and its associated specialty services in a variety of categories. There are versions for various countries, as well."
